I used to overdo it every time I was gearing up for a surf trip and injure myself :). These days I try to consistently do something, but nothing intense. I found some 10 minute surf specific yoga routines that I like, back exercises from a thing called foundation training (I have back issues), some surf specific mobility and balance stuff. I also use a rower, bike, and cruise around on my longboard skateboard to do some cross step stuff and do some core stuff here and there. I have also had a go with the exercises that Ben ran through in the continuum here and they were helpful before my last trip. Even paddling around on flat days is good, but tough to get motivated to do. Can post a few links if curious. Mainly just keeping active and consistent is my goal with some flexibility, balance and core/back stuff. But surfing/paddling, even when conditions are not ideal, is the best.
