Boards of Waves Past
Posted by Joseph Santa Maria on September 18, 2024 at 3:51 pmThought it would be fun to start a thread memorializing boards that we’ve sold or had to retire. Gone, but not forgotten! Here’s an assortment of boards I’ve bought and sold over the last 10 years or so.

Yeah, I’ve definitely been lucky to try boards. I’ve been able to buy/resell tons of stuff from CL here in the LA area. For a while I was looking for the perfect all arounder. I got this 9’9″ Stamps board and it pretty much replaced everything haha. Since then I have made my boards more specific and different from one another. Just fun to mess around. There are always a few amazing boards on CL here. It’s a problem lol.

For me though, it would have to be my first ever Aus Noserider by South Coast Surfboards. I got it made for a contest in Mexico probably 5-6 years ago now, and as soon as I rode it, we just clicked. Super nice locked in noserides and that coupled with the best turning capabilities for a log I’d ever ridden at the time. Had an absolute blast on it in Mexico but unfortunately my shaper wanted to sell that board to someone in Mexico and make me another when I got back, but there’s just something about those magic boards. Only had about 4 weeks on it in the end, might’ve needed to stick up for the board a bit more and taken it home haha, all in the past now!

Hey there @surfninjas1993 , to follow on from Ben’s mention of the sell and return. The pic is of my John Arnold hatchet fin made in around 66/67 I believe. I bought it around 15-20 years ago at a comp at Crescent Head in NSW, Aus. Absolutely loved the board, such a beautiful Old Mal, but needed some cash at some stage so sold it and always regretted it! For years I’m sure my surf mates including Ben got sick of me saying ‘Aah I wish I’d never sold that board’ Anyway it worked out because all those years later someone I know from another coast in Victoria contacted me and said ‘Some of the crew tell me you might be interested to see this’ and it was my old ‘Arnie’! It had had about 3 other owners and found it’s way back to me about 6 months ago. So the surfer grapevine worked in my favor, I bought it back and now I will definitely never sell it again. Looks like it might be yours one day @BenConsidine !
