Greetings from New York
Posted by paul on August 8, 2024 at 6:07 pmHi all – just joined yesterday and the site and concept looks great! Been a big fan of all three of your YouTube channels and approach to teaching and encouraging. I started surfing about 10 years ago with my wife. I moved close to the ocean in Long Beach NY a few years ago during Covid and pretty much every vacation we take revolves around surfing these days. My longboard surfing has kinda hit a wall in the past few years and my dreams of noseriding have remained just that, dreams :). My long term longboard goal is to see the ocean differently than I do now, find good wave sections and comfortably hang five whenever a good section pops up. I look forward to learning, setting goals and making connections with a supportive group focused on long boarding. Cheers!

awesome Paul, great to have you!! That’s a great goal to have.. and maybe even push beyond hehe! We’re not too far from each other.. maybe we can get a session in one of these days.

Same here. In fact, several times I’ve literally dreamed that I’m noseriding. I put those toes over the nose and think, “Wow, finally.”

Hey Paul!!! I love this and thanks so much for sharing that goal, great to know where you’re at and what you’re looking to work on that’s super helpful. You’re definitely not alone with feeling your surfing has hit a wall – it’s exactly why we built Longboard Sessions really so we can create a path around these barriers and find out exactly what we need to be doing! Super invested in getting you hanging 5, feeling confident to position well out there and even beyond! Yewww!!! 👏👏🤙

Thanks Ben – been loving the videos so far and looking forward to some focused “practice”. Interestingly enough, I started playing bass guitar right around the same time I started surfing. I joined a site “Scottsbasslessons” back then and it’s very similar to longboard sessions, with lessons, feedback and a community. That model/community has been super helpful in my development as a musician. It’s really neat to see something like this for longboard surfing.

nice!! Another interesting little note is that before Ben and I even knew each other or had surfing youtube channels, we both had guitar related youtube channels haha! We’ve all seemed to adjust from music to surfing

No way! Definitely feel some parallels in music and surfing, technique and expression. I started playing bass and surfing around the same time in my mid 30’s as I couldn’t play basketball or skateboard without getting an injury every other week. I can confidently say I’m a better bass player than surfer at this point :), but I’m working on it.

Haha yeah it was such a random coincidence, I have to add Brian’s guitar skills way better than my own haha impressive stuff for real!
I agree with the parallels there as well Paul, well we’re here to work on the surfing side with you haha, sounds like the bass guitar service has worked well!!
