  • Keeping your legs together

Posted by paul on May 30, 2025 at 10:35 am

One of my recurring issues is keeping my legs together when I paddle. I am mindful of keeping my knees touching, feet crossed, etc.. But I have a chronically tight left hip flexor and psoas and sometimes it feels like I am fighting against my body’s natural inclination to separate my legs while paddling.

Any suggestions on what I can do out of the water to help with this?

I’m thinking of maybe trying to hold a small ball between my knees and lie in the prone position. That and continue to stretch my psoas and hip flexors which I try to do several times a week.

A bungee cord should fix your problem!

But in all seriousness, I do have this same problem and have yet to remedy it. I know for me it’s just going to be consciously thinking about it and hope that the habit sticks

    Hey Paul!
You definitely don’t need to keep your knees touching eachother if that’s what you meant – maybe i misinterpreted!
We do however want to keep our knees, at the very least, on the board and our feet within the width of the board
I have super tight hips but when I was younger I used to bend my knees whilst paddling, crossing my ankles and letting them hang over my hamstrings…
This was much softer on my hips

Thanks! Will give that a try next time I get out.
