Most noserides are right in the pocket, with the board not pointing to the beach. I’m working on achieving that wave positioning.

But occasionally I see someone hanging five far from the pocket. It happens when the surfer is in danger of falling off the back of the wave, and there’s a good example in this video:

Her first noseride is far from the pocket, and the second is in the pocket.

    Anyone else notice this?

Yep absolutely. Iv’e done this occasionally just to try to re enter the wave. I must say tho, that the hang 5’s far from the pocket to try and re-enter are not that fun IMO. The ones deep in the pocket are insanely fun haha. Two completely different sensations

You’re exactly right!! There’s a few different positions we can nosedive on the wave – and as a general rule the further away from the pocket you are the higher and more having the nose pointed towards the beach you need to be, vs more critical where you can be lower and have the board angled right across the wave – this is more critical and a great end goal!! Really good pick up 🤙

We go in depth on this topic in the ‘Noseride Progression Series’ – feel free to check that out here 🙂🤙
